Ohio Woman Gets to 48 Months for Firearms Felonies

Collins admitted she gave one of the three handguns to her man in November 2005

September 14, 2008

CLEVELAND OH NEWS -- Antrinna Collins of Cleveland, was sentenced to 48 months imprisonment for violations of federal firearms laws by U.S. District Judge John R. Adams. Between October 22, 2005 and October 23, 2005, Collins purchased three semi-automatic pistols and three AK-47 semi-automatic assault style rifles at the Cuyahoga County gun show in Berea, Ohio. One of the handguns purchased was used by a convicted felon in a shooting 27 days after Collins purchased the firearm. Two individuals were later convicted of attempted murder and felonious assault in connection with the shooting.

Collins admitted she gave one of the three pistols to her husband in November 2005, less than one month after purchasing it at the gun show. Additionally, Collins knew her husband was a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing firearms. Collins' husband was found in possession of another pistol she had purchased in June 2007, as a result he was convicted of having a weapon while under a disability.

Evidence provided at Collins trial also showed the woman previously purchased a firearm in 2000, and that her husband was found in possession of that handgun 21 days after she made the purchase.

On September 8, 2008. while making the announcement of the Collins sentencing, Acting U.S. Attorney William Edwards or the Northern District of Ohio, said:

"At the sentencing hearing Judge Adams noted, among other lawful factors, that escalating gun crimes and violence were factors he considered in determining the sentence. The sentence imposed by the Court reflects a sentence nearly twice the sentence recommended by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines and acknowledges the egregious nature of Collins' actions."

ATF Special Agent in Charge Christopher P.Sadowski of the Columbus Field Division had this to say about Collins sentence:

"A person that purchases firearms and places them in the hands of convicted felons and violent criminals is only steps away from helping the criminal pull the trigger and commit an act of violence. The stiff sentence imposed in this case recognizes the severity of the crime."

Antrinna Collins was tried and convicted by a jury in May 2008 of the following felonies:

  • Two counts of making false statements in the acquisition of firearms, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 922(a)(6).
  • One count of unlawful transfer of a firearm to a felon, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 922(d).

Since Collins was tried and convicted in a United States federal court, she will serve at least 85% of her sentence behind bars, or 40.8 months in prison. Just think for the time she will spend in prison, plus the money spent on firearms for her man, this woman could have bought and paid off a new car, and be cruis'in Cleveland.
